LEXINGTON, Va. — This time, Bucknell 's second-half rally held up, giving coach Jeff Behrman his first win as head coach of the Bison .
Chris Deitrich threw a fourth-quarter touchdown pass, and Michael Cadden ran for a score, leading Bucknell to a 14-3 win at VMI on Saturday.
The Bison (1-2) defense kept the Keydets out of the end zone, and scoreless over the final two quarters until the offense finally found its rhythm late.
After missing some scoring chances early — including a missed field goal — the Bison scored on consecutive fourth-quarter drives to pull out the win.
Deitrich found Jackson Nowinski for the go-ahead touchdown with 6:51 to play.
On the next series, the BU defense stepped up, forcing the game's lone turnover.
Junior corner England Allen picked off a pass to put the Bison in prime field position.
On third-and-two, Ty Stauffer, a Danville grad, went 24 yards — BU's longest run of the day — to give Bucknell a first down. Two plays later, Cadden ran for a score with 2:19 to play.
Deitrich finished 22-of-30 for 221 yards and the touchdown pass. Cadden and Stauffer were both effective, combining for 24 carries for 130 yards and the touchdown.
Brandon Biagiarelli led a dominating defensive effort for the Bison with a dozen tackles, including one for a loss.
