- Caitlin Clark calls for WNBA to make changes to playoffs

Caitlin Clark's season ended earlier than she hoped after the Indiana Fever were knocked out in the first round by the Las Vegas Aces, falling 2-1 in a three-game series. Now, Clark is calling for changes to the format.
During a recent podcast appearance, Clark called it "a bit silly" that the first round of the playoffs is a three-game series.
During her appearance on Kylie Kelce's Not Gonna Lie podcast , which was recorded as the WNBA Finals were underway, Clark argued that the first round of the playoffs should be longer.
"Obviously, like we've talked about, like we're only adding more teams, and you know, it's becoming more and more fun. We'll play more games, like next year we're going from 44 games to 50 games," Clark said. "I think like the next step after that, like right now the playoffs are like a three-game series and a five-game series and a seven-game series. So like that probably needs to change."
"Like a three-game series is a little bit silly in my opinion. It could probably be 5-5-7 or 5-7-7, just so it feels like you're getting like a real series and like a real battle between those two teams," she added.
The Fever split the first two games against the Aces before losing Game 3 in Las Vegas, 94-83.
Clark isn't the first to push for a longer first round. Fever coach Stephanie White said in September that she would "prefer a longer series," according to Front Office Sports .
Aces coach Becky Hammon has also criticized the current setup, in which the higher seed hosts Games 1 and 3 and the lower seed hosts Game 2.
"The 1-1-1, I don't think is a good setup," Hammon said, per Front Office Sports. Liberty star Sabrina Ionescu said the first round "needs to be 2-1 or go to a five-game series, as I think anything can happen in a 1-1-1."
The league has already lengthened the Finals, which moved to a best-of-seven in 2025. This year, the change paid off. The Golden State Valkyries beat the Atlanta Dream in Game 7 on Saturday, and the game drew the best postseason TV audience in league history .
If Clark gets her way, fans could be getting a lot more playoff basketball soon.
