Indiana Fever superstar Caitlin Clark had her former college team, the Iowa Hawkeyes, in mind after the Nike CC1 release.
Clark dominated the NCAA with a four-year stint with the Hawkeyes. Although she never won a national championship, losing in the 2023 and 2024 finals, she set countless records for the college and the NCAA as a whole.
Now with her third WNBA season in the rearview, Clark showed love to where she became a national superstar by sending a gift over to the current women's basketball team on the Hawkeyes.
Clark sent over custom black-and-gold Nike Caitlin 1 signature shoes to the Hawkeyes, creating a player-exclusive Iowa PE colorway for their season-opener against Towson. The team shared a video of the excited reactions current players had to the gift.
The Hawkeyes also shared an in-game picture of how the sneakers looked on the players' feet during the game.
While Clark has previously gifted sneakers to the Hawkeyes team, including pairs of the CC1s, this is the first time she has created a team-exclusive PE for the players, featuring the University of Iowa Tigerhawk logo on the tongue.
The Hawkeyes picked up a convincing 73-45 win over the Towson Tigers in their CBB season-opener on November 3. Junior Dani Carnegie, who was a freshman during Clark's final year with the Hawkeyes, led them to the win with 21 points, five rebounds and five assists.
Clark left the Hawkeyes without a championship, but set the NCAA Division 1 basketball scoring record with 2,951 points, breaking Pete Maravich's 54-year-old 3,667-point record.
She has also made the most three-pointers in NCAA history with 548, with her 201 threes in 23-24 setting the record for most in one season.
Her legacy as a Hawkeye is arguably richer than any current professional athlete due to the historic nature of her four-year tenure. While not having a championship to cement it as the greatest NCAA career of all time is rough, she gave Iowa years of incredible basketball.
