The NBA Summer League games in Las Vegas are the official coming-out parties for one of the most high-profile draft classes ever. That was on full display Friday, especially in the Memphis Grizzlies-Chicago Bulls game at the Thomas and Mack Center. It marked the first game between Cam Boozer and Caleb Wilson.
In the opening quarter, it was Boozer, the No. 3 pick, who had the initial upper hand when he stole the ball from Wilson, the No. 4 pick, and slammed it with authority at the other end.
It also marked the first professional showdown between two former collegiate rivals.
Boozer arrives from Duke, where he averaged 22.5 points, 10.2 rebounds, and 4.1 assists per game over one season. On the flip side, Wilson comes from North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he averaged 19.8 points and 9.4 rebounds per game.
Boozer came away with the Naismith Player of the Year Award , while Duke lost to UConn in the Elite Eight, 73-72. Meanwhile, Wilson set records for first-year students at North Carolina, including the most 20+-point games and the most consecutive double-digit games, with 24.
Boozer is known for being one of the most offensively potent players in the draft class, with a high basketball IQ. Conversely, Wilson is a versatile player with supreme athleticism and physicality.
The Grizzlies will face the Dallas Mavericks on Monday, the Golden State Warriors on Tuesday, and the Atlanta Hawks on Thursday. Meanwhile, the Bulls will play the Utah Jazz on Monday, the Washington Wizards on Wednesday, and the Los Angeles Lakers on Thursday.
