- Cam Schlittler Named AL Outstanding Pitcher by His Fellow MLB Players
The New York Yankees put together a strong regular season during the 2026 MLB season, finishing 93-68 and earning the top American League Wild Card spot before sweeping the Boston Red Sox in the opening round of the postseason.
However, their postseason run came to a screeching halt in the ALDS against the Tampa Bay Rays. The Yankees were swept by the Rays, who would eventually go on to win the American League Pennant. While New York's season ended in disappointment, one of the biggest positives from the year was the emergence of right-hander Cam Schlittler in his second MLB season.

Schlittler started 33 games for the Yankees this season, going 14-6 and posting an American League-leading 1.95 ERA, with 239 strikeouts and a 0.92 WHIP over 193.2 innings. Schlittler was one of the most dominant pitchers in the American League this season and is a heavy favorite to win the AL Cy Young Award for 2026.
While Schlittler will have to wait until Nov. 11 for the Cy Young voting results, the Yankees announced on Wednesday that the right-hander was named the 2026 Players Choice Awards AL Outstanding Pitcher.

Presented by the MLB Players Association, the award is voted on by active players across the league. Schlittler was among three finalists, including Dylan Cease of the Toronto Blue Jays and Sonny Gray of the Boston Red Sox.
After showing promise as a rookie in 2025, the 25-year-old made a significant leap in his second year and earned his first career All-Star selection.
Schlittler also carried his regular season success into the postseason, where he pitched 6⅓ scoreless innings, striking out 10 in Game 1 of the Wild Card series against the Red Sox.

With the Players Choice Award now added to his résumé, Schlittler has quickly become one of the most accomplished young pitchers in baseball.
