Cameron Jordan's one-last-ride with the New Orleans Saints hasn't gone as expected. After bagging 10.5 sacks in 2025, the team's all-time sacks leader has been shut out through six games in 2026 -- with his pass rush win rate falling from 9.9% to just 5.4%. Father Time has caught up with him. With hopes of climbing the all-time sacks leaderboard (he currently ranks 17th) to help his resume for the Pro Football Hall of Fame fading, maybe Jordan would consider chasing a Super Bowl ring instead.
And one team that may have room for him? None other than the San Francisco 49ers, one of the Saints' oldest rivals dating back to their inception in the old NFC West. Here's why ESPN's Bill Barnwell described Jordan as a " bargain target " for San Francisco:
"It's unclear whether either the player or team would be willing to break up one of the longest-lasting partnerships in the NFL, but the Saints are unlikely to make it to the playoffs in what is likely to be Cameron Jordan's final season as a pro. Jordan's right on the precipice of the Hall of Fame, and after 16 seasons, the only thing left for him to do is win a Super Bowl. Jordan hasn't had much of an impact this season, but he did manage 10.5 sacks for the Saints a year ago."
Most of Jordan's dead money is already being paid off, so trading him would save about $750,000 against the 2026 salary cap while leaving behind $4.92 million on the books next year. This wouldn't be a cap-minded move. Given Jordan's age and performance, it also wouldn't bring back major draft pick compensation -- think a sixth- or seventh-round pick. This would be about doing right by one of the team's most beloved players.
And it might be more likely than you think. Jordan passed on offers from multiple teams before re-signing with the Saints this offseason. New Orleans has traded with San Francisco before (most recently, they swapped practice squad players late in the preseason, exchanging linebacker Deion Jones for running back Zamir White ). Narratively, Jordan ending his NFL career chasing a Super Bowl ring with the 49ers, just like Rickey Jackson did, would be fitting. The NFL trade deadline falls on Nov. 10. We'll see if anything develops on this front.
