Canadiens' Cole Caufield gets real on Game 3 goal amid quiet postseason appeared first on ClutchPoints . Add ClutchPoints as a Preferred Source by clicking here .
The Montreal Canadiens have a 2-1 series lead over the Buffalo Sabres in the second round of the 2026 Stanley Cup Playoffs. Montreal's offense has come alive over the last couple games. And they've enjoyed big performances from unsung heroes such as Alex Newhook . However, one star player who has been quiet is forward Cole Caufield .
Caufield did score on Sunday night in a 6-2 win over the Sabres in Game 3. But that was just his second goal of these Stanley Cup Playoffs. The Habs star's last goal before Sunday came in Game 4 against the Tampa Bay Lightning on April 26th. It's a disappointing run of form for someone who scored 51 times in the regular season. But he feels he may finally be turning a corner .
"I'm just trying to build off these last couple of games," Caufield said, via NHL.com, on Sunday night. "Obviously, it's tight out there, there's little room, but when there is, you've got to take advantage of that. And I think I'm starting to do that, and hopefully we can keep that going."
The Canadiens have found ways to score without Caufield filling the net. As mentioned, Newhook has stepped up in a big way. However, if Montreal wants to go far in these playoffs, they need their leading goal scorer to step things up.
The Habs are looking to return to the Eastern Conference Finals for the first time since 2014. They have a chance to take a commanding 3-1 series lead on Tuesday night in Game 5. Caufield's performance will certainly draw a lot of attention in that game, as fans wonder if the 51-goal scorer from the regular season is finally showing up in the postseason.
