The tide turned in Central Florida as the Montreal Canadiens edged out the Tampa Bay Lightning 3-2 to take a 3-2 series lead. As the series shifts back to Centre Bell, Habs' goalie Jakub Dobes revealed how the team beat the Lightning in Game 5, according to a game recap by Corey Long of NHL.com.
"We played a more mature game. We experienced in the last game (a 3-2 home loss on Sunday) how to lose a lead, so I feel like today … we know how it feels, we know what to do, and I'm really proud of our group. I feel like it was a good effort all around," Dobes told Long.
Longtime Canadiens' player Brendan Gallagher 's return to the lineup gave the team some much-needed energy. Gallagher got the first goal three minutes into the game to give the Canadiens a 1-0 lead. Ultimately, the Habs held on to the lead until the second period. After successfully killing off a penalty, the Canadiens allowed Dominic James to score to tie things up.
The Habs bounced back immediately, with a goal from Kirby Dach . Then, they allowed the Lightning to tie it on a goal by Jake Guentzel . Although the Gallagher return amped them up , the team needed more. They got that in the third period when Alexandte Texier scored the go-ahead goal, and the ultimate game winner, to give the Canadiens a 3-2 lead. Lane Hutson provided the primary assist and has been excellent in this series with two goals and three assists.
The Canadiens now have a golden chance to clinch their ticket to the Second Round as they host Game 6 on Friday. If they win, they will meet the winner of the Boston Bruins and Buffalo Sabres , with the Sabres currently leading that series 3-2.
