The Montreal Canadiens have made a selection in the fourth round of the 2026 NHL Entry Draft, selecting Brayden Klimpke with the 117th overall pick.
The Habs originally owned the 103rd overall pick, but they swung another deal with the Los Angeles Kings , dropping to 113th in exchange for acquiring the 190th overall pick. They then made a deal with the Vegas Golden Knights , exchanging the 113th overall pick for the 117th and 223rd overall picks.
Now that the dust has settled, the Canadiens have put their hands on a 6'0″ defenceman who shoots left, and is committed to North Dakota next season (NCAA). He's more of a playmaker than a shoot from an offensive standpoint, scoring four goals and 42 assists in 68 games for the Saskatoon Blades (WHL), where he served as an alternate captain.
The Habs opted to trade a pair of first-round picks in exchange for Noah Dobson in 2025, which means they did not add a significant amount of draft capital to the mix, at least compared to most years under Hughes' regime.
Seeing as they could not swing a deal for a player who can make an immediate impact in the NHL, the Canadiens opted to use their first round pick, selecting Gleb Pugachyov. They also moved up in the draft to ensure they could select Pugachyov with the 26th overall pick.
