Canucks vs. Devils best bet: Evan Rodrigues Under 2.5 Shots on Goal
Both teams enter this early-season cross-conference clash looking to build momentum after mixed starts. The Canucks arrive in Newark holding a 2-3 record through their opening slate, while the Devils aim to rebound from a 1-2 start.
Looking back at last season's numbers highlights the baseline context for both squads. New Jersey put together a 42-37-3 overall record, including a respectable 21-17-3 mark on home ice, where they averaged 2.8 goals per game while surrendering 3.1.
On the other side, Vancouver struggled through a tough campaign, finishing 25-49-8 overall and 16-22-3 on the road while generating just 210 goals total (2.6 per game on 25.8 shots per game). Saturday marks the first head-to-head matchup of the current season between these two clubs.
The value in this matchup lies in fading Evan Rodrigues' shot volume. Action PRO projection models target Rodrigues for just 1.70 shots on goal against the Vancouver defense. Comparing this projection against his posted market line of over/under 2.5 shots on goal reveals an edge of 12.7% in favor of the Under, earning an A-grade rating in the projection system.
The empirical data strongly supports this under angle through the early portion of the schedule. The Under 2.5 shots line has hit in all three of the Devils' games this season.
Rodrigues was held completely off the shot column with zero shots on goal against Utah, followed by single-shot outings against Philadelphia and the New York Islanders .
Although the juice on this line is relatively steep at -170, his consistently low volume makes the Under 2.5 Shots on Goal the most reliable play on the board.
