The New York Mets have gotten off to a solid start to the unofficial second half of their season, winning two out of three games over the weekend against the divisional rival Philadelphia Phillies. Still, the Mets are a whopping 16 games below first place in the NL East, and it's been an overall disastrous season in Queens.
Recently, Mets legend and former manager Carlos Beltran spoke about whether or not he had wanted to be considered for the position again after the team parted ways with Carlos Mendoza earlier this year.
"Yes, I had conversations with a few people within the organization. And, I don't know, I just didn't feel it was the right thing for me to do," Beltran said, per SNY Mets on X, formerly Twitter, via Justin Tasch of the New York Post.

Beltran also spoke glowingly of Mendoza.
"I have to tell you that the respect that I had for Carlos Mendoza when Carlos was part of the Mets is super top. Carlos is a great human being," Beltran said. "I loved being around him. I felt, and I told him and he can tell you about it, I told him that one of the reasons why I wanted to be close to him was because I wanted to support him as much as I could with experiences of dealing with situations in the clubhouse, players," he said.
Beltran was briefly the Mets manager in 2019 before he stepped down after being named in the Houston Astros ' sign-stealing scandal. He is a legend in the organization, but for now, it doesn't appear that he has any plans on coming back to manage the team any time soon.
