Throughout much of the year, Brown was considered a strong contender for the MVP award but ultimately joined a talented second unit alongside Jalen Brunson , Kevin Durant , Donovan Mitchell , and Kawhi Leonard .
The First Team was headlined by MVP winner Shai Gilgeous-Alexander , Nikola Jokic , Victor Wembanyama , Luka Doncic , and Cade Cunningham .
While Brown appreciated the recognition, he expressed a candid reaction that included a subtle critique of the award voters.
Reported by ClutchPoints on X, Brown addressed his complicated relationship with the media when reflecting on his selection:
"I'm grateful… I'm surprised I win awards at all sometimes… I'm not the most liked player in the media… It doesn't take a strong eye to see what's kind of in between the lines."
Brown acknowledged that his willingness to discuss controversial topics publicly may make him less popular among some media members.

Instead of showing bitterness for not making the First Team, he implied that observant individuals can easily discern how media biases might influence voting outcomes.
While Brown took a reflective approach, his teammates were shocked by the final results.
As the clear first option for the Celtics, especially during the extended absence of Jayson Tatum , Brown provided vital leadership both on and off the court .
Ron Harper Jr. , a Celtics contributor, expressed his disbelief over the results on social media, posting an Instagram story with the frustrated caption, "2nd team????" to emphasize his shock at the snubbing.
