The Oregon Ducks have been through the adversity of an entire season in just the first nine weeks of the year. It has been injuries, horrible losses, off-the-field issues, firing coaches, and an ultimately tough season.
For the first time this season, they got a little bit of momentum on their side. They fought through a really tough first half against the Northwestern Wildcats on Saturday and came out with a huge win against the No. 20-ranked team in the country.
They carried that momentum to Tuesday night, and the College Football Playoff committee made it official: the Ducks' season is not dead.
The Ducks were bumped out of the AP Top 25 after their loss to the UCLA Bruins several weeks ago. However, after their win last week, their playoff dreams are more than clearly still alive.
Now, it is still a very long shot that they get into the final bracket. The only way that they will have a chance is if they win out the rest of the way. That is the only thing they can do to get the job done.
As Lloyd Christmas once said, "so you're saying there is a chance?"
This is just the belief that the Ducks need heading into one of their toughest games of the entire season.
The task in front of them on Saturday is a massive one. They must go all the way across the country and take on the No. 11-ranked Ohio State Buckeyes in their place, which is one of the hardest places to play in the entire world.
The other positive is that the Buckeyes are very clearly a wounded animal coming into this one. They were completely blown out by the USC Trojans last week, so one, they have doubts in their mind but two, they have their backs against the wall.
They are going to get Ohio State's best effort, but something tells me the Buckeyes are going to get the Ducks' best effort.
The CFP Committee said it loud and clear to the entire world. They believe that the Ducks are still alive and their dreams of playing in the College Football Playoffs are still alive. Their work is cut out for them, but the light is visible at the end of the tunnel.
If they are able to climb out of this hole and make the Playoff, this will be one of the great coaching performances of all time.
