The Los Angeles Chargers made their priorities clear Thursday, placing a strong emphasis on improving protection for quarterback Justin Herbert as the team continues to reshape its roster.

Following a 2025 season defined by consistent pressure on Herbert—who was the most pressured and most hurried quarterback in the league and was sacked 54 times—the organization has made offensive line upgrades a central focus. The front office entered the offseason determined to address those issues and provide better support in the trenches.
General manager Joe Hortiz spoke during a pre-draft media availability at the team’s El Segundo facility. His message centered on the offensive line and the work that remains ahead.
The Chargers have already taken steps to reinforce the unit. They signed center Tyler Biadasz and added guard Cole Strange, moves aimed at stabilizing the interior. Despite those additions, questions remain regarding overall depth and consistency.
ESPN’s Kris Rhim took to X, formerly Twitter, to share a quote from the general manager that reflected the front office’s ongoing commitment to strengthening Herbert’s protection ahead of the draft.

“We’re not done on the offensive line, I can promise you that.”
Rhim reported the quote while covering the media session, reinforcing that the front office views the line as a work in progress. The statement implies that additional moves are likely in the coming weeks.
Hortiz’s approach reflects a clear sense of urgency. Injuries to key tackles and inconsistent guard play contributed to significant struggles last season, leaving Herbert exposed to frequent pressure.
As a result, the Chargers’ draft strategy appears increasingly focused. The team is anticipated to target linemen who fit a movement-based system within the evolving offensive scheme.

Adding depth through both free agency and the draft provides flexibility. It allows the Chargers to avoid reaching for a single need while building a more balanced unit.
The message from the front office is clear. The Chargers plan to continue investing in protection as they build around their franchise quarterback.
