Chargers' Mike McDaniel refuses to put a ceiling on Justin Herbert
Chargers offensive coordinator Mike McDaniel refuses to put any sort of expectations on quarterback Justin Herbert.
McDaniel spoke to the media and said he simply expects Herbert to succeed.
"Aggressively not ceilinged," McDaniel said .

"I'm expecting success," McDaniel said, simply.
"One thing each day. To do that, it takes an incredible amount of focus because there's no scorecard and it can't be about being competitive. It has to be about being locked in and getting real muscle memory, and I thought he did that, so it's been a good week."
McDaniel has already played a role in developing Herbert and turning him into a legitimate MVP candidate in 2026.
That duo is expected to do wonders for the Chargers and the offense. McDaniel has found success guiding offenses throughout his career, serving as the 49ers' offensive coordinator in 2021 and leading the Dolphins to one of the league's best offenses during his first two seasons as head coach in 2022 and 2023.

While Herbert has played like a top-10 quarterback at worst on a consistent basis for the past half-season, the offense has not played up to par. Whether it's the lack of protection, inconsistent help regarding pass catchers, or injuries throughout the offense, it's hampered that side of the ball.
However, under Mike McDaniel, Herbert is expected to run a high-efficiency offense that focuses on quick releases and explosive yards after the catch. Add that to what is expected to be a strong running unit, and the expectations are sky-high, but don't tell that to McDaniel.
