With the 2026 season approaching, the focal point for the Chargers is the offensive line.
Another year and another injury to one of their key members. This time it's to their key free-agent signing, Tyler Biadasz . Biadasz will miss the entire 2026 season with a torn ACL. He suffered the injury last week and will miss the first year of the three-year deal he signed with the Chargers this offseason.
Now, the Chargers must reshuffle in a major way, and because they lost another lineman, NFL.com writer Gennaro Filice questions whether the offensive line is 'cursed.'
"Is the Chargers' offensive line cursed," Filice asked.
"Sadly, the same can be asked of Los Angeles . Like the Lions , the Chargers lost their new, well-paid center to injury -- but unlike Detroit 's Cade Mays , L.A.'s Tyler Biadasz is out for the season. Now the Bolts are forced to reshuffle the interior offensive line, with second-round pick Jake Slaughter moving from left guard back to his college position at the pivot. Even though Cole Strange has endured some rough moments this month, the free-agent addition seems locked in at right guard. But who'll man LG?"
The injury to Biadasz, plus the uncertainty that remains in the interior of the line, is not ideal with just over two weeks until the start of the season.
The question is a fair one to pose. There are still question marks in that area after a 2025 season in which they played almost 30 different offensive line combinations. That was because they lost Rashawn Slater prior to the start of the 2025 season and Joe Alt to a severe ankle injury.
The Chargers lost their top two tackles, and it was not a pretty sight for the line and Justin Herbert .
Los Angeles approached this offseason with the goal of revamping the line. While they added to it by completing the move with three new players at left guard, center and right guard, it's still unclear whether it's an upgrade.
Cole Strange is set to play at right guard. While it's a very small sample size, he struggled in their Week 2 preseason game against the 49ers.
On top of that, rookie Jake Slaughter is set to be the starting center. While the center spot is his primary position coming out of college, it's unclear how that will translate to the NFL in his first season.
As for the left guard position, that battle has been one of the more intriguing ones. We should get a decision on who will be the starting left guard in the coming days. So far, Kayode Awosika is the leader on the front, but Trey Pipkins III appears to be pushing Awosika after posting consecutive days with the first-team offense.
