The Chargers opened up their first day of training camp at The Bolt on Wednesday.
Throughout the 90-minute session, there were a few players who raised eyebrows, including three rookies.
WR Brenen Thompson
The Chargers selected Thompson in the fourth round to inject the wide receiver room with a speed element. The former Mississippi State product stood out in a big way with a few catches, including a sliding grab from a pass thrown by Justin Herbert .
EDGE Akheem Mesidor
It's hard to gauge play in the trenches without pads on. But that didn't stop the Chargers' first-round pick from making his presence felt. According to the team's official website , Mesidor showed off his run defense skills, splitting a double team and would have recorded a tackle for loss.
S Genesis Smith
There weren't many other safeties in this year's draft class who were as talented in the coverage department as Smith. The former Arizona product flashed those skills, as he made a few plays on the football. Smith is pushing for the third safety spot with Tony Jefferson and R.J. Mickens.
CB Tarheeb Still
Smith wasn't the only standout in the secondary. Still, the third-year cornerback, picked off Trey Lance . The former fifth-round pick was a steady presence in the slot last season, and he will be one of the team's most vital young defensive anchors in Year 3.
