The Chicago Bears have announced their 53-man roster and have now shifted focus to the regular season.
With that shift, there will still be some players dealing with injuries, sadly.
The Bears announced who would be on the PUP list at the start of the regular season. The PUP list works differently in the preseason than it does in the regular season.
In the preseason, players count toward the 90-man roster and can be removed from the list at any time. In the regular season, any player put there must miss at least four games, and they do not count towards the roster.
The Chicago Tribune's Brad Biggs reported that Kyler Gordon , Shemar Turner and Noah Sewell were going to be on the PUP list, meaning they'll miss the first four games.
For Gordon, this is becoming too common.
He missed most of last season with various injuries. It started with a hamstring injury that knocked him out for the first four games. He went back on the injured reserve with groin and calf injuries.
He eventually returned along with Jaylon Johnson in Week 13, only to go back on the IR for the rest of the regular season with a groin injury .
Now, Gordon is on the PUP list to start the year, and things aren't looking good for the cornerback who just signed his rookie extension last year. Since then, he's only played in three games.
Then, there's Turner.
Turner is still recovering from his torn ACL, which he had as a rookie. He played in five games before suffering the injury.
We know Turner will be back in October . He will be a welcome addition to the Bears' pass rush, which hasn't changed much from last year. His time on the PUP list lines up almost perfectly with his recovery timeline.
Either way, he'll be back in October, whether that's against the Green Bay Packers , Atlanta Falcons or New England Patriots .
Lastly, there's Sewell.
Sewell was one of the starting linebackers for the Bears last year when he suffered a torn Achilles in Week 17.
Sewell played in 13 games with nine starts. He recorded 59 total tackles and three TFLs before sustaining the injury.
The good news is that left tackle Ozzy Trapilo wasn't on the PUP list. This means he'll be back sooner than expected, even if he doesn't suit up in Week 1.
Trapilo was expected to miss most of the season, so anything short of that is a win.
For Gordon, Turner and Sewell, it's going to be awhile before we see them again.
