The Kansas City Chiefs adjusted practice squad depth by signing international tight end Thomas Odukoya, utilizing the International Player Pathway Program exemption. The front office added the 6-foot-6 target to expand its roster allowance following final preseason cuts.
The strategic addition bolsters coverage in the tight end room while veteran starter Travis Kelce prepares for his 14th season. Odukoya provides developmental length as the coaching staff builds insurance behind their starting rotation.

Odukoya gives Kansas City another tight end option after joining through the International Player Pathway Program. The move expanded the Chiefs' practice squad to 17 players under the exemption rules.
Born in Amsterdam, Odukoya played college football at Eastern Michigan before entering the NFL through the same pathway with Tennessee.

Reacting to the practice squad addition on social media, Odukoya shared a short message marking the signing on his Instagram stories: "New opportunity! TYG."
The strategic acquisition comes as starter Travis Kelce enters his 14th season, following a 2025 campaign where he recorded 76 catches for 851 yards and five touchdowns.
Kelce also described the work he wants to improve this season. "All aspects of football, man. Being more accountable when the ball's in the air," Kelce said . "There were a few games last year that I felt like I put on myself. In the blocking world, being able to get my guys so we can spring guys for bigger gains. And then on top of that, just being a better leader. When we get stuck with adversity hitting, who's going to want you in that fox hole with you? That's one of those things: I want to be one of those guys that everybody counts on to be there and get us out of that fox hole."
Those responsibilities will matter as the Chiefs try to recover from their 6-11 finish in 2025.
Kelce remains the Chiefs' main tight end, but the team needs younger options around him. Odukoya's arrival gives Kansas City another player to develop while the club has been reshaping its roster around Patrick Mahomes .
The roster is part of Kansas City's forward-looking approach as Kelce manages the final stretch of his career. The coaching staff continues evaluating future depth behind their primary tight end room without altering immediate starting responsibilities.
