Turns out the Denver Broncos and Jaylen Waddle weren't the only ones executing some trickery. Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid dipped into his own bag of tricks on Monday Night Football . Except this time he busted out two newcomers in Justin Fields and Kenneth Walker III.
The quarterback and running back, respectively, connected on this late lateral handoff to put the game away.
Fields is looking for any kind of league salvation in signing with the Chiefs . He's struggled as a starting quarterback since his arrival to the league as an 11th round selection for the 2021 NFL Draft to the Chicago Bears . He earned QB1 for the New York Jets last season, but that experiment faded quick. He also had a stop in between with the Pittsburgh Steelers .
Walker, however, rose as the biggest free agent addition for a Chiefs team needing a backfield boost. Kansas City lost past backfield star Isiah Pacheco to the Detroit Lions . So Walker rose as one of the best free agent running backs available. And he brings familiarity with winning a Super Bowl too: Earning Most Valuable Player honors in guiding the Seattle Seahawks to their big game win in February.
Both handed Reid new weapons to work with on a night Kansas City is launching a redemption tour. The Chiefs endured an injury-ravaged 2025 season that forced them to miss the postseason completely. KC ended up watching the rival Broncos go further among the AFC West representatives in playing for the conference title.
But the MNF debut shined a light on a Chiefs team clearly on a mission to reclaim the top of the NFL.
