LeBron James and Chris Bosh spent four seasons as teammates on the Miami Heat , and the latter has now become one of the former's most vocal supporters. Bosh recently took to Instagram to explain how James is a mix of the greatest basketball players put together.
"Is LeBron James the greatest player to ever play in the NBA?" Bosh began. "I don't know that. I'll leave that for you to decide, but I will say this. He's been to the Finals 10 times. Jerry West went nine times. He's worn multiple numbers, like Kobe [Bryant]. Led the league in assists, like Magic [Johnson] with the Lakers. Led the league in scoring, like [Michael] Jordan.
"Played more seasons than Robert Parish, all right?" Bosh continued. "Do your homework. Check out who Robert Parish is. He lives in New York and plays in Philly like Wilt [Chamberlain], all right? Been to the Finals four times in a row, like [Larry] Bird."
James, who has worn No. 23 and 6, actually reached the NBA Finals eight years in a row from 2011 to 2018. The first four trips were with Bosh on the Heat, and they won back-to-back titles in 2012 and 2013.
James then won his third title with the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2016 and his fourth with the Los Angeles Lakers in 2020. He also won the scoring title with the Cavaliers in 2008 and the assists title with the Lakers in 2020. James became the NBA's all-time scoring leader in 2023 as well, and you'd argue he has accomplished just about everything.
Bosh, though, believes there is a key feat James needs to pull off to cement his status as the greatest ever. He wants the 41-year-old to replace Nick Nurse as the Philadelphia 76ers ' head coach and lead the team to the championship.
"There's only one more thing he has to do, and this will solidify him pretty much forever if he does it," Bosh said. "He's got to coach the team to a championship like Bill Russell did, I think back in '69, if I'm not mistaken. Do your homework. Bill Russell was the player/coach. Red Auerbach said he's the coach after retiring. So he was playing and coaching.
"So, Bron, if you hear this, you got to play and coach, man," Bosh continued. "You've already done everything else. He's an amalgamation of all the greatest players of all time combined into one. So that's the last thing he's got to do. Player-coach, which he's halfway there already now.
"So hey, Nick Nurse, just let him coach," Bosh added. "Nick Nurse, retire, give the keys to Bron, let him coach Philly. And they win a championship while he's coaching? He's the greatest of all time. It's not even close."
The late, great Bill Russell was a player-coach for the Boston Celtics from 1966 to 1969. Russell had success in that role too, as he led the Celtics to titles in 1968 and 1969.
Bosh wants James to become the player-coach for the 76ers, but it's safe to say that won't happen. Why? Well, James has said he will never coach in the NBA . The 22-time All-Star has absolutely no interest in coaching, let alone in being a player-coach.
Nurse would have no interest in stepping aside either, with all the talent on this 76ers team. They are one of the title favorites for 2026-27.
Now James faced ring-chasing allegations for joining a 76ers team that already had Jaylen Brown , Joel Embiid , and Tyrese Maxey . Bosh notably came to his defense and called Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant ring-chasers . He has nothing but praise for his former teammate.
