Chris Gotterup has shared his experience at the 2026 Presidents Cup after helping the United States to secure victory. The 27-year-old was one of Brandt Snedeker's six captain's picks for the USA team.
He played four matches at Medinah Country Club and won three: two alongside Cameron Young and one singles match against Christiaan Bezuidenhout. It was an impressive debut performance, despite Gotterup admitting that he did not play his best golf throughout the week.
Gotterup has now opened up about what it felt like to represent the United States on the international stage. The world No. 7 admitted that the experience was completely different from playing on the PGA Tour .
Chris Gotterup was visibly passionate about representing the United States at the Presidents Cup. Even though he did not bring his A-game, he was delighted to contribute to his country's latest success.
Gotterup cared so much about representing his country that he was unusually nervous at Medinah. He admitted he felt more pressure about letting his teammates down than he does when competing for individual titles on the PGA Tour.
"Not even close," Gotterup said when comparing the two environments on Sunday evening. "This is by far and away the most nervous, most fun, pressure-packed environment that I've ever been a part of.
"I didn't feel like I had my best stuff this week, and getting thrown into this with not your A-game is stressful, but I felt like I handled it really well. We have a great team and a lot of guys that believe in each other, so hopefully we can pull this one out."
Gotterup has quickly become a household name on the PGA Tour and should have a strong chance of automatically qualifying for the 2027 Ryder Cup team. At just 27, he could also have the opportunity to represent the United States at multiple Presidents Cups and Ryder Cups over the next decade and beyond.
