Entering the 2026 season, the Detroit Lions were facing some uncertainty at multiple offensive line positions, especially left guard.
Christian Mahogany, whom the Lions took in the sixth round of the 2024 NFL Draft, struggled in 11 starts at left guard in 2025, allowing six sacks and 27 quarterback pressures with a 40.7 Pro Football Focus pass-blocking grade . As a result, Detroit held an open competition at the position in training camp, but Mahogany still emerged as the best starting option.
Mahogany was facing a legitimate make-or-break season in 2026, and so far, the 26-year-old has risen to the occasion as a plus starter on Hank Fraley's unit.
Christian Mahogany is Playing at a Pro Bowl Level

Detroit Lions offensive lineman Christian Mahogany (73) blocks Carolina Panthers linebacker Devin Lloyd (55) during the first half at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte on Sunday, Oct. 4, 2026.
In five starts this year, Mahogany hasn't surrendered a sack and has also allowed just five quarterback pressures. The Boston College product is PFF's sixth-highest-rated guard (82.7), and the best in pass protection (83.8).
Mahogany is a key piece of arguably the best offensive line in the sport right now . The group has done a splendid job keeping quarterback Jared Goff upright and paving lanes for running back Jahmyr Gibbs, who is on pace for a career year.
At this time last year, Mahogany was considered a low-level starter on his way to being a journeyman offensive lineman. However, the former Day 3 pick is proving so far in 2026 that he should be a long-term building block on head coach Dan Campbell's squad. If Mahogany can stay healthy and maintain his quality play for the rest of the season, a Pro Bowl nod and national recognition aren't out of the equation.
The Lions will welcome the undefeated Minnesota Vikings to Ford Field this week, and the offensive line, especially Mahogany, will be heavily relied on to carry Detroit to another division victory.
