The Green Bay Packers have at least one feel-good story on their roster following the final cuts across the league over the weekend.
That would be rookie wide receiver J. Michael Sturdivant , who apparently did just enough to convince the Packers that he deserves one of the coveted 53 spots on the roster . He is one of the six wide receivers locked in for Week 1 of the 2026 NFL season. Sturdivant joins Christian Watson , Jayden Reed , Matthew Golden , Skyy Moore and Bo Melton in the wide receiver room.
Watson, for one, was mentioned by Sturdivant on Tuesday to reporters, saying that the veteran wideout was the first one to call him after the news that he made the cut.

Sturdivant, who played for the Florida Gators in his final year in college in 2025, seemed genuinely appreciative of the excitement Watson showed over the news.
"Christian, he had FaceTimed me right after the news broke, man. I was on the phone with my family, so I had called him back after. He made a joke about the chips he wanted for the locker room, for the receiver room. So it was fun to share that moment with him," the first-year wide receiver said, via John Miller of NBC 26 News .
Sturdivant also said other teammates have been great to him as well in the offseason, showing support in his goal to make the team.
"But all the vets, they've been great. They've all been supportive," added Sturdivant.
"They've all helped me with the playbook and just done a great job. I'm very blessed to be a part of that room. These guys are really good people. They're great football players, but I'm extremely blessed to be in this room. And I'm excited to go in."
This is quite a development in Sturdivant's career that perhaps not many saw coming after he went unselected in the 2026 NFL Draft. Now, he is looking to further seize the moment and parlay the opportunity into perhaps a bigger role down the road in Green Bay 's passing attack.
In 52 games in college (with California, UCLA and Florida), Sturdivant tallied 2,073 receiving yards and 16 touchdowns on 150 receptions.
