The Cincinnati Bearcats opened the 2026 season with a convincing 34-15 win over the Boston College Eagles on Saturday, Sept. 5.
Defense and the ground game were the difference-makers for the Bearcats . While Boston College had 389 total yards and tallied more first downs than the Bearcats (24 to 16), the Eagles had two turnovers and rarely advanced the ball deep into Bearcat territory.
On offense, UC racked up 255 rushing yards, led by Gi'Bran Payne's 108 yards and J.C. French IV's three rushing touchdowns. Payne is now the Bearcats' first 100-yard rusher since Tawee Walker totaled 119 yards in a Nov. 15, 2025 loss to Arizona.
The Bearcats return to Nippert Stadium on Sept. 12 to host the Western Carolina Catamounts at 7 p.m.. It is the first "Nippert at Night" game of the 2026 season.
