CLEMSON — Clemson baseball coach Erik Bakich said pitcher Ariston Veasey will miss the Tigers' first three games and possibly more following his arrest in January .
"He'll be out for a little bit of time, not a long time, but a little bit of time to start the year," Bakich said Feb. 10 at a media availability. "That's one of those situations where a really good kid makes a bad decision for five seconds, and it has a ripple effect."
Veasey was arrested on Jan. 11 and was charged with two counts of third-degree assault and battery, public disorderly conduct and unlawful use of or fraudulent application for license. Veasey was involved in an altercation at ROAR Clemson, a downtown bar, according to the Clemson City Police Department's incident report.
No. 17 Clemson opens its season on Feb. 13 (4 p.m. ET) vs. Army at Doug Kingsmore Stadium. It will be a three-game series from Feb. 13-15.
Clemson isn't labeling Veasey's absence as a suspension even though the junior right-handed pitcher will miss games despite not being injured.
"We're going to see him out here competing for Clemson sooner rather than later," Bakich said.
Assault and battery in the third degree is a misdemeanor in South Carolina. Upon conviction, a person found guilty of assault and battery in the third degree must be fined no more than $500, imprisoned for no more than 30 days or both. Public disorderly conduct and having a fake ID are misdemeanors too.

According to the Clemson athlete handbook, "all other misdemeanor charges/convictions, the head coach will recommend, within seven days, a course of action, and upon concurrence of the designated CUAD administrator, administer sanctions."
Veasey, 20, transferred to Clemson this season after spending two years at Alabama. The right-hander appeared in five games with the Crimson Tide in 2025, posting a 9.82 ERA over 3⅔ innings. He will likely be a reliever for Clemson this season.
