Commanders running back Jerome Ford was active and available to start Friday's preseason game against Miami. Somewhere during Washington's 20-7 victory over the Dolphins, the veteran's status changed.
He suffered a hamstring injury, head coach Dan Quinn said, that proved to be a serious one. It resulted in the Commanders placing him on injured reserve on Tuesday morning, effectively ending his season.

A player placed on IR before the 53-man roster deadline makes a player ineligible to return, though he can be waived with an injury settlement and play for another team when healthy.
Ford and receiver River Cracraft were moved to IR as part of a series of roster moves announced before Tuesday's non-padded practice.
Most of them were reported on Monday, but a few were not. That includes the addition of veteran defensive tackle Maurice Hurst II, a Michigan product drafted in 2018 with stops in Oakland/Las Vegas, San Francisco and Cleveland.
Tight end Tre' McKitty was also signed. He played regular-season games for the Chargers from 2022-24. The signings of linebacker Krys Barnes and running back Craig Reynolds were also confirmed.

Some of these signings make more sense when matched with those not practicing Tuesday due to injury.
Hursts and Barnes will help in those areas, and Reynolds picks up some slack with Ford on IR.
In addition, the Commanders make kicker Jake Moody's release official and also cut reserve punter Matt Haack. Tress Way was active, but only held for field goals. He'll return to full duty in training camp this week and on Saturday against the Lions.
