UPDATE:This story has been updated after the release of the official Commanders injury report.
Running back Bill Croskey-Merritt didn't practice all week due to a groin injury and won't be available to play the San Francisco 49ers on Monday night. Head coach Dan Quinn ruled him out during his Friday press conference.
That fact was confirmed later Friday afternoon, when Washington released its official injury report .
That's a blow, considering Croskey Merritt got revved up with a strong performance in a Week 5 tie versus the New York Giants.
Quinn said that Croskey-Merritt re-injured the groin originally hurt in August, which makes recovery a bit tougher.
"That's harder, on the same injury," Quinn said. "We'll work really hard to get him back."
While fellow rushers Austin Ekeler (chest) and Rachaad White (shoulder) have been banged up, both backs were cleared to play San Francisco. Another positive is that Jeremy McNichols was a full participant all week and should be ready to come off IR and play.
"Having a combination of guys," Quinn said, "is what we'll lean on right now."
Quinn also told reporters that quarterback Marcus Mariota (knee), edge rusher Javontae Jean-Baptiste (pec) and defensive lineman Charles Omenihu (groin/ankle) have been ruled out versus San Francisco and won't make the trip to the Bay Area.
Washington has a long list of questionable designations, including receiver Stefon Diggs (hamstring), defensive lineman Javon Kinlaw (ankle/knee) and center Lucas Patrick (illness). Receiver Terry McLaurin (hamstring) and safety Nick Cross (illness) were cleared to play.
Cornerback Trey Amos, linebacker Jordan Magee and McNichols are all questionable (as is customary for those with open practice windows) while waiting to come off IR. If any of them are to play Monday, Washington must add them to the active roster and make corresponding moves.
