As of Friday, we have a 37-day wait until the New Orleans Saints play their regular season opening game. New Orleans will do so on the road, playing at the Detroit Lions on Sunday, Sept. 13. Wearing No. 37 as the Saints opened training camp is Dalys Beanum, a second-year cornerback.

An undrafted rookie in 2025, Beanum is making his second attempt at the Saints active roster. Our Saints Player of the Day features continue with a look at Beanum's brief career.

Name (age): Dalys Beanum (23)
Hometown: Omaha, Neb.
Position: Cornerback
Height, weight: 6-foot-1, 200 pounds
College: South Dakota State Jackrabbits
Relative Athletic Score: N/A
Drafted: Undrafted in 2025 (Saints)
NFL experience: 1 year
2026 salary cap hit: $885,000

An all-state selection out of Millard West High School in Nebraska, Beanum was surprisingly lightly recruited. He accepted an offer from South Dakota State, where he almost immediately became a fixture on defense. Beanum was a starter for his last two seasons but was a major contributor all four years with the Jackrabbits. South Dakota State won consecutive FCS national championships in 2022 and 2023, with Beanum being one of their defensive stars. Beanum finished his Jackrabbits career with 12 interceptions, third in school history, while returning three for touchdowns.

Beanum was a teammate of current Saints linebacker Isaiah Stalbird at South Dakota State. He now hopes to duplicate Stalbird's path to the NFL, with Stalbird carving out a more substantial role in his second year. Beanum has his work cut out for him at a position figuring to have just one or two jobs up for grabs. With a strong camp, Dalys Beanum has the size and certainly the ball skills to potentially snag one of those final roster spots at cornerback.
