The Chicago Cubs are activating outfielder Seiya Suzuki from the injured list. Outfielder Dylan Carlson has been designated for assignment in a corresponding move. Cubs manager Craig Counsell reportedly said Suzuki will not play everyday after returning from injury, according to Bruce Levine. It seems as if Chicago is proceeding with caution as Suzuki adjusts to playing once again after his recovery from a knee injury.
Suzuki was placed on the 10-day injured list before the regular season. The Cubs outfielder suffered the knee injury during the World Baseball Classic. Chicago was hopeful that Suzuki would not have to miss too much time, and sure enough he is set to return early in the new campaign.
Suzuki, 31, is preparing to make his season debut in his fifth MLB campaign. He has been a reliable player for the most part, hitting .269/.346/.472 for his career to go along with an .818 OPS. In 2025, Suzuki recorded career-high marks of 32 home runs and 103 RBIs. He ended up finishing 20th in National League MVP voting as a result of his overall strong performance.
He has become one of the better outfielders in all of MLB. The Cubs have built an impressive core of players and their overall future is promising. Chicago is just 6-6 to begin the 2026 season, but the Cubs are expected to make a postseason run this year. They feature a talented roster without question.
Seiya Suzuki and the Cubs will host the Pittsburgh Pirates on Friday night at 2:20 PM EST at Wrigley Field in Chicago.
