CHICAGO — Major League Baseball's best defense earned hardware Sunday night.
Chicago Cubs center fielder Pete Crow-Armstrong and third baseman Alex Bregman won the National League Gold Glove Award at their respective positions while three other finalists — left fielder Ian Happ, right fielder Seiya Suzuki and shortstop Dansby Swanson — fell short of the ultimate defensive honor.

Milwaukee Brewers' Jackson Chourio prevented Happ from winning his fifth straight Gold Glove Award in left field while the Arizona Diamondbacks' Corbin Carroll and Geraldo Perdomo finished in front of Suzuki, a first-time finalist, and Swanson.
The recognition is just getting started for Crow-Armstrong, who was voted Player of the Year and NL Outstanding Player by his peers league-wide last week — and he is expected to be named NL MVP next week. The 24-year-old won his first Gold Glove Award last year and should be considered the favorite to receive the Platinum Glove Award, which will be voted by fans and announced Friday.
Crow-Armstrong led all MLB outfielders with 26 outs above average (OAA) and a 26 fielding run value (FRV). His elite outfield coverage led to converting a remarkable 50% of five-star catch opportunities.
Bregman overcame a tough start to the season with shaky defense the first couple of weeks. He put in the work to earn his second Gold Glove Award, the other coming in 2024 during his last season with the Houston Astros. Among NL third basemen, his 7 FRV was tied for second-best while his 15 defensive runs saved led the majors at his position as one of only two third basemen to record double-digit DRS. Bregman also recorded the most assists by an NL third baseman.

Bregman is the first Cubs third baseman to win a Gold Glove Award since Ron Santo won the last of his five awards in 1968.
Chicago White Sox infielder Chase Meidroth was a finalist for the American League second base honor, which went to Cole Young of the Seattle Mariners. Meidroth led all AL second basemen in fielding run value (10) and was third in fielding percentage (.986) and outs above average (9), appearing in 150 games at the position.
