The Clemson Tigers are 5-3 and one win from a mark Dabo Swinney brought up at his weekly press conference on Tuesday, ahead of a Saturday road trip to the Syracuse Orange.
"We're going for our sixth win in this game … You talk about consistency, that would be 27 years in a row for Clemson … And 18 years in a row for me. When you think about the consistency in that. Six wins. Pretty low bar? But that list is just Clemson, Georgia, Ohio State, Oklahoma … Consistency is very underrated. It's something I talk about with our team all the time. Having consistency in your program creates longevity. I'm proud of these guys for managing adversity and battling through the season. We're going to battle our butts off to have a great finish. We have a big challenge this week in order to punch our ticket to the postseason. We have to go earn it," Swinney said .

Clemson's own game notes credited last November's 45-10 win over the Furman Paladins as the 27th straight year with a sixth win, going back to 1999, and named the Georgia Bulldogs, Ohio State Buckeyes and Oklahoma Sooners as the only other schools to match it. That confirms the list and moves Swinney's count up by one, since a win at Syracuse would make it 28 for the program and 18 for Swinney, whose first full season came in 2009.
Why does a six-win streak mean anything at Clemson now?
Six wins is the standard bowl-eligibility line, and all four programs have survived at least one season on exactly that number. Clemson went 6-7 in 2010, and Georgia posted that record the same year. Ohio State finished 6-7 in 2011 under Luke Fickell, and Oklahoma has done it twice under Brent Venables, in 2022 and 2024. The list is short because a bad year eventually reaches almost everyone, and these four got through theirs with nothing to spare.
Oklahoma is the member of the group closest to dropping off this fall, sitting at 4-4 after a 42-25 home loss to the South Carolina Gamecocks on Oct. 31, with the Florida Gators, Ole Miss Rebels, Texas A&M Aggies and Missouri Tigers on the remaining schedule. Georgia and Ohio State have already reached six.
Clemson won at least 10 games every season from 2011 to 2022, and its run of nine-win seasons lasted through 2024 before last year's 7-6 finish. This year's three losses are a 51-10 defeat at the LSU Tigers, a 41-13 loss to the Miami Hurricanes and a 20-16 loss to the Virginia Tech Hokies, the last two at Memorial Stadium.
Those earlier seasons built the reputation Swinney leaned on Tuesday, and when a program with that resume reaches for the bowl-eligibility line as its proof of consistency, the line also shows where this team stands in November.

Can Clemson get the sixth win at Syracuse on Saturday?
Saturday's noon ET kickoff on ESPN2 is the first of four remaining chances, and Syracuse is on its first winning streak of the season after a 31-30 overtime win at the North Carolina Tar Heels and a 30-27 win over the SMU Mustangs.
The Orange also beat Clemson 34-21 at Death Valley last season. Clemson's injury list for this week includes running back Gideon Davidson, center Harris Sewell, guard Elyjah Thurmon and linebacker Kobe McCloud, all ruled out by Swinney.
If Saturday goes the wrong way, the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets visit Memorial Stadium on Nov. 14, followed by a Friday trip to the Duke Blue Devils on Nov. 20 and a home game against South Carolina on Nov. 28.
