The Chicago Cubs season came to a disappointing end in the National League wild card round. The Cubs looked like one of MLB's best teams at times while also looking like one of the worst at others.
Regardless, this offseason is going to be an important one for Chicago with hopes of building a roster capable of making a deeper run in the playoffs.
Fortunately, they have their shortstop position locked up for the foreseeable future with Dansby Swanson.
The 32-year-old veteran wrapped up his fourth season in Chicago with another productive all-around year. He did miss some time with a left oblique strain, but when available he continued to be one of the better players on this roster.

Swanson was around league average at the plate, hitting .213 with a .297 on-base percentage and .694 OPS. However, he more than made up for it with his defense up the middle.
Swanson was one of the best shortstops in the National League, posting a Fielding Run Value of 11 according to Baseball Savant and an Outs Above Average of 16, both of which ranked in the 90th percentile. As a result, he has once again been nominated for a Gold Glove Award.
The Cubs announced on X that Swanson, along with Alex Bregman, Pete Crow-Armstrong, Seiya Suzuki and Ian Happ, had all been named finalists.
Swanson will be going up against Geraldo Perdomo of the Arizona Diamondbacks and Masyn Winn of the St. Louis Cardinals at shortstop. If he wins, it would mark the third Gold Glove of his career and his second with the Cubs.
He previously won one during his time with the Atlanta Braves. The winners will be announced by Rawlings on Sunday, November 1.
