The Sacramento Kings drafted Darius Acuff Jr. to reignite the franchise. Acuff responded by going after NBA rookie records . Now the NBA Draft pick guided Sacramento to its first win of the season, beating the Dallas Mavericks 115-100 Monday.
Acuff dropped 25 points on 10-of-21 shooting to snap the 0-7 start for the Kings.
Acuff dished out six assists too in helping facilitate the fast-paced offensive approach that coach Doug Christie wants. Especially with the past Kings great aiming to recreate the magic of the early 2000s Sacramento teams that became a perennial playoff contender.
Acuff certainly showed signs of recreating that past mystique. Including showing the same penetration speed that made him revered at Arkansas.
Then he buried this long distance three-pointer that pierced the dagger in at Dallas.
He even hit a new rookie milestone according to Kings radio reporter for KCRA News Sean Cunningham.
"Darius Acuff Jr. is the first rookie with 20 points, five rebounds and five assists in three straight games since Cooper Flagg (12/23-12/27/25). He is also just the fourth teenager in NBA history with 20-5-5 in three straight games, joining Flagg, Luka Doncic and LeBron James," Cunningham posted on the social media website X, formerly Twitter.
He's now sparking some early Rookie of the Year conversations with his fast start. Acuff is averaging 26.3 points per game while dishing out 6.3 assists per game. He walked in already producing back-to-back 30-point nights: 38 at Memphis in the 136-105 loss on Halloween, then 34 facing the New Orleans Pelicans on Oct. 29. The latter contest watched him hit a double-double too with 14 assists.
