Sean McVay pours his heart and soul into the Los Angeles Rams , and not just because he wants to win football games. He wants to develop connections with his players, staff members and everyone in the Rams' building.
Davante Adams shared a story recently that illustrates just how much McVay cares about his players and coaches. While on No Laying Up's "TrapDraw Podcast", Adams revealed that after the Rams set their initial 53-man roster last season, McVay went through and gave a brief speech about all 53 players that made the team. He spent at least a minute on every player, discussing what they mean to the team, how they're going to contribute and how they've embraced their role.
Adams was blown away by it, saying it lasted almost an hour and a half.
"Last year, when we first made the cuts after training camp and everything in the preseason, he came in and for every single person on that team that made the roster, he spent like legit 60 seconds minimum with, like, a full dissertation about what that person means to the team and what their role is and how they've embraced it and how they're going to be able to contribute to the Rams organization and make us, you know, the best organization that we can be," Adams said. "And I mean, from the guy that's going to play four snaps a game to Matthew Stafford, it was a legit breakdown of each person and what they did and what they mean to him as a person, as a player, everything. So, I mean, just to care that much – and that just tells you, all that says is that this man really cares and in order to care that much, you got to prepare a lot, too. I mean, he had to go through and write basically a speech that lasted probably like almost an hour and a half getting through every single player on the team and went through a couple of staff and everything."
McVay sets out to make every player feel important, no matter how big or small their role on the team might be. It's why everyone wants to play for him, making the Rams a destination in free agency.
Adams felt wanted when he was a free agent in 2025, receiving film cutups from McVay while in Japan on vacation. McVay then had a whole highlight reel prepared for the Rams' first team meeting, showing what Adams is capable of in Los Angeles' offense.
"I'm sitting in there, not having ever seen anything like it, just kind of blown away by how personable he was," Adams said.
The Rams have become the powerhouse that they currently are because of McVay, and it's stories like this one that show what makes him such a special coach.
