- David Jablonski: Stewart named top NL rookie in Players Choice Awards
Cincinnati Reds infielder Sal Stewart was named the National League's Most Outstanding Rookie in the Major League Baseball Players Association Players Choice Awards on Wednesday, Oct. 28.
Stewart hit 32 home runs, collected 111 RBIs (third most in baseball) and scored 87 runs. He became the fourth Reds rookie to appear in every game in a season and first in the 162-game era.
Stewart set a Reds record for RBIs by a rookie, breaking the mark of 100 set by Jim Greengrass in 1953. He was also the first Red to win the National League Rookie of the Month Award twice.
Stewart tallied 164 hits, the most by a Reds rookie since Pete Rose, who had 170 in 1963.
Stewart became the 14th rookie in Major League history to have 30 or more home runs and 100 or more RBIs.
A first-round pick in the 2022 draft, Stewart made his big-league debut with the Reds in 2025, appearing in 18 games.
In his first full season in the big leagues, Stewart started 161 games. No one else on the Reds roster started more than 143. Stewart made 111 appearances at first base, 45 at third base, eight at second and 11 at designated hitter.
Stewart is the first Red to receive an Outstanding Rookie Award in the Players Choice Awards since Jonathan India in 2021. Todd Frazier won the same award in 2012.
The Players Choice Awards started in 1992 with the first Comeback Player of the Year awards and expanded with more categories, including the rookie awards, in 1994.
