Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones was clearly frustrated after the team's 33-30 overtime loss against the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday. The Cowboys had a 14-point lead in the fourth quarter before Arizona rallied to tie the game. In overtime, kicker Chad Ryland sealed the win for the Cardinals with a 42-yard field goal.
FOX broadcast captured Jones pounding the table in frustration as the Cardinals completed their comeback.
Fans on X reacted to Jones' animated reaction after the Cowboys' overtime loss.
"Nobody to blame but himself. He's too stubborn to get a real coach in there and be successful," one fan wrote.
"He's the problem btw," one fan added.
"He deserves every bit of it. It's his fault," another commented.
"The Cowboys' star is not a logo anymore. It's a rating," one fan wrote.
"This is on him. Probably the worst coaching staff in the NFL," one fan wrote.
It was an eventful fourth quarter in which Arizona scored 20 points and Dallas could manage two field goals and one touchdown. The Cowboys led 24-10 at one point in the fourth quarter before Arizona fought back. Gardner Minshew connected with Michael Wilson for a 13-yard touchdown with six seconds remaining, tying the game at 30 after the Cardinals missed the extra point. Ryland redeemed himself with a 42-yard field goal to give Arizona the 33-30 victory.
The defeat dropped Dallas to 3-5, and the team's playoff hopes will start to fade if they cannot get back to winning ways.
Jerry Jones carried his frustration in his post-game interview, where he acknowledged the Cowboys didn't play well enough.
"That [loss] really is glaring in a negative way — where we were and how we ended up losing that ball game," Jones said . "We had a great chance right at the end to win the game, and had everybody out there that can win games for us. Of course, we didn't get it done, so it was a couple of games within the game, really, and that was also telling. We just did not play well enough, at all, to win that ball game. Not well enough at all after you had to lead the way we did and had the opportunities we had to win that ball game. So it's an indictment of the whole show."
However, Jones is not considering making any changes to the Cowboys' coaching staff.
"We're not gonna get into anything — that's not, in my mind, at this time," he said. "The main thing that's in my mind is we tee it up for those kinds of spots to win it. We really do want those situations. We call for it. Bring it on."
For now, the Cowboys need to find out why they are unable to remain consistent in both halves of games, offensively and defensively.
