The Devils traded away Jacob Markstrom to the Florida Panthers , bringing in Evan Rodrigues , Jesper Boqvist , and Ben Steeves in return. There was some speculation that the team would be making a move for Connor Hellebuyck from the Winnipeg Jets , but that did not come to fruition.

Rittich then grew into the primary netminder for the Flames in 2018-19 and earned an All-Star Game nod in 2019-2020.
In the final year of his contract, He was traded to the Toronto Maple Leafs . That offseason, he signed a one-year deal with the Nashville Predators , spending the 2021-22 season with them. He would then spend a year backing up Hellebuyck with the Winnipeg Jets, before two years with the Los Angeles Kings , and one with the Islanders.
In his career, he is 122-81-29 with a 2.79 goals-against average and a .903 save percentage.
