- Deyvison De Los Santos Called Up: Fantasy Baseball Impact for His MLB Debut
Deyvison De Los Santos is making his MLB
debut with the Miami Marlins
, albeit a bit ahead of schedule after a Christopher Morel oblique strain forced the big club's hand.
For fantasy baseball
managers the questions are urgent: Is De Los Santos worth adding? What is Deyvison De Los Santos' fantasy baseball outlook in the short-term and all season long in Miami? How long with this opportunity last?
This analysis cuts through the noise on a slugger who led all minor league baseball in 2024 with 40 HR and 120 RBI before taking a significant step backward in 2025. Here's what it means for your fantasy baseball team this year.
Christopher Morel Injury and Fantasy Impact
Morel has never been on the MLB injured list, as he only ever missed a handful of games following in-game injuries, usually taking foul balls off his body.
What fantasy baseball owners should pay attention to in the next couple of days is the severity of the oblique strain. That alone should be the single biggest predictor of De Los Santos' fantasy relevance over the next month.

De Los Santos will debut this weekend with the Marlins, but it remains to be seen if he will be an everyday option at first base to start, or a power bat out of the lineup. An extended Morel IL stay would probably install him as at least a temporary every-day 1B.
In 2024, De Los Santos was elite at AA and AAA levels. At Double-A Amarillo and Triple-A Reno, he accumulated 40 HR and 120 RBI, making him a household name for dynasty league players. His ISO that year was, again, elite.
But last year represented a significant power drop. Across 440 plate appearances at Triple-A Jacksonville, he hit just 12 HR and hit .241, a massive power drop confirmed by his .119 ISO.
The signs were not all negative though. De Los Santos cut his swing rate from 58.2% to 51.4% and improved his contact rate from 66.2% to 71%. To be fair, Jacksonville is a pitcher-friendly venue and Amarillo is extremely hitter friendly, and his max exit velocity of 118.5 mph last year indicated his power was still present.

De Los Santos Role and Playing Time Outlook in Miami
With Connor Norby on the roster, De Los Santos need not be installed as the everyday 1B. He can also play 3B, where the Marlins have Graham Pauley and Javier Sanoja. But none of the three particularly scared a MLB pitcher, so if Morel is out at least 3 weeks, expect De Los Santos to at least earn a weak-side platoon vs. lefties.
LoanDepot Park, the Marlins' home, is a pitcher-friendly environment which could cap his HR production. If you are projecting a full-season for De Los Santos as a full-time hitter, I would guess 20-25 HR and a .250 batting average. Useful but not outstanding at a corner position.
Should You Add De Los Santos From the Fantasy Waiver Wire?

If you play in a deeper league, 12 teams or more, add him immediately, particularly if you can stash him until his role becomes clear. If you're in a 10-team league, he is a streaming add only at this point. Dynasty and keeper league players will want to add him right away if he is available.

The Verdict on De Los Santos: Grab Him While Morel Is Down
The timeline for adding this player is narrow. You might have one opportunity. With so much uncertainty swirling around him, the extent of Morel's injury, and the Marlins' plans and strategy for De Los Santos, you might have to hurry up and wait.
De Los Santos brings legit power and potentially muti-position eligibility. We assume there will be growing pains as he adjusts to major league pitchers and continues with his improved contact approach at the plate. And we acknowledge you may cut him quickly or be forced to sit him for stretches, but if you want his upside, the time is now to get him.
People Want To Know More About Deyvison De Los Santos
Should I add Deyvison De Los Santos in fantasy baseball? In leagues of 12 teams or deeper, De Los Santos is worth a waiver claim right now. He provides immediate first base and corner infield eligibility, and the Marlins have limited power options around him. His 40-home-run, 120-RBI minor league season in 2024 establishes a ceiling that is hard to ignore. In 10-team leagues with shallow benches, he is a streaming option rather than a long-term hold.

Why did the Marlins call up Deyvison De Los Santos? The Marlins promoted De Los Santos after Christopher Morel was scratched from the lineup with a left oblique strain on March 27, 2026. Miami needed a right-handed corner bat immediately, and De Los Santos - who hit a home run in his Triple-A Jacksonville season opener the night before - was the most logical option on the 40-man roster.
What is Deyvison De Los Santos' fantasy baseball position eligibility?De Los Santos qualifies at first base and third base across most major fantasy platforms. That dual corner infield eligibility increases his value significantly, especially for managers dealing with injuries or bye-week gaps at either position. Confirm eligibility on your specific platform before adding.
What happened to Deyvison De Los Santos in 2025?After leading the minors with 40 home runs and 120 RBIs in 2024, De Los Santos regressed sharply in 2025. He slashed .241/.311/.363 across 440 plate appearances at Triple-A Jacksonville, hitting just 12 home runs. A left quad strain cost him five weeks. The Marlins worked to improve his swing decisions and he did cut his groundball rate, but the power output was a significant concern heading into 2026.

How long will Deyvison De Los Santos stay on the Marlins roster? His tenure is directly tied to Christopher Morel's oblique recovery. Mild oblique strains typically require a 10-day IL stint minimum; moderate strains can cost a player 4-6 weeks. If Morel lands on the 10-day IL, expect De Los Santos to have at least 2 weeks of big-league at-bats. A longer Morel absence could cement De Los Santos as a regular for a significant portion of April.
What was the A.J. Puk trade that brought De Los Santos to Miami?
In July 2024, the Marlins traded left-handed pitcher A.J. Puk to the Arizona Diamondbacks
at the trade deadline. The return package was headlined by Deyvison De Los Santos, who at the time had posted a 1.122 OPS across 38 Double-A games. Miami immediately added him to the 40-man roster to protect him from the Rule 5 draft.
