Carroll will return to the lineup as the designated hitter following left hip flexor tightness that sidelined him earlier in the week. He had missed two consecutive games after experiencing discomfort while running the bases against the New York Mets . The Diamondbacks treated the issue cautiously, labeling it day-to-day without requiring further testing.
The team confirmed Carroll's return by sharing its official lineup on X, formerly Twitter, ahead of the second game of the series, following a 5–4 victory Friday night.

The Diamondbacks slotted Carroll second at the DH spot in the lineup to limit strain on his lower body. Using him as a designated hitter allows the team to regain offensive production without increasing the risk of aggravating the injury. The approach reflects a measured strategy as the season progresses.

Arizona enters the game with momentum , holding an 8–6 record and riding a three-game winning streak. The Phillies will counter with Taijuan Walker on the mound vs. Arizona 's Brandon Pfaadt in this interleague showdown.
Manager Torey Lovullo emphasized balancing Carroll's impact with long-term health, noting the team will monitor him closely as the schedule intensifies and early-season games begin to carry greater significance.
Carroll's presence remains critical to the club's offensive potential. His return provides an immediate boost as the team continues its East Coast road trip.
With his recovery trending positively, Arizona appears confident the speedy outfielder can contribute while continuing to manage his workload carefully.
