The Arizona Diamondbacks placed rookie outfielder Tommy Troy on the 10-day injured list with a sprained right AC joint , the team announced on Wednesday. The move was made retroactive to July 12 after Troy injured his right shoulder during Saturday's game against the Los Angeles Dodgers .
Troy suffered the injury in the fifth inning while making a running catch on a 392-foot fly ball off the bat of Teoscar Hernandez . After crashing into the wall with his throwing shoulder, the 24-year-old flipped the ball to right fielder Corbin Carroll before immediately grabbing his shoulder in pain. Following a visit from manager Torey Lovullo and assistant athletic trainer Max Esposito, Troy exited the game. He later said he experienced a sharp pain and continued to have limited shoulder mobility, while an MRI confirmed the sprained AC joint.
Lovullo initially described Troy as day-to-day, but Arizona ultimately placed him on the injured list during the All-Star break. The transaction did not include a corresponding roster move, leaving the Diamondbacks' 40-man roster at 39. Troy will miss at least the opening six games after the break and is first eligible to return on July 22 during the Athletics series.

Since making his major league debut on May 23, Troy has appeared in 39 games, batting .223/.299/.364 with four home runs, three doubles, one triple and nine RBIs. Arizona's No. 4 prospect at the time of his promotion, Troy was drafted as an infielder out of Stanford before transitioning to the outfield. He has started 21 games in left field and 14 in center field this season.
With Jordan Lawlar still on the injured list, the Diamondbacks are expected to rely on Ryan Waldschmidt alongside Corbin Carroll, while Max Kepler and Lourdes Gurriel Jr. could share playing time in the remaining outfield spot. Waldschmidt and Jorge Barrosa replaced Troy after his injury during the Dodgers series. Meanwhile, infielder Pavin Smith cleared waivers and was outrighted to Triple-A Reno.
