The Cincinnati Bearcats suffered a 45-42 Week 7 loss to the West Virginia Mountaineers on Saturday. While it was a nail-biter throughout, there was a moment in the middle of the contest that went viral on social media, as it appeared that a medical cart mishap may have caused more pain to one of Scott Satterfield's players.
Cincinnati defensive tackle Josh Hough was carted off the field with a lower-body injury bout midway through the second quarter. However, it looks as though a West Virginia staffer unknowingly backed the medical cart into a wall , leading to Hough grimacing in pain. The driver of the cart never appeared to notice what was happening before eventually driving off to take the senior defensive lineman to the locker room.
Hough has not had an opportunity to reveal exactly what happened in the clip above. It appears his left leg, which is where the injury occurred, may have been pinned between the cart and the wall. However, there is no hard confirmation of that being the case. Either way, he did not return to the contest.
As of now, the severity of the injury is unknown. Cincinnati will have to conduct further evaluation before revealing Hough's official status moving forward. If he is unable to play in Week 8 against the Texas Tech Red Raiders, then true freshman Jonathan Rulo would likely receive more playing time.
Josh Hough is a transfer senior who played at the NAIA and Division II levels in previous years. Saturday's game was his sixth appearance this season. In those appearances, Hough has recorded 15 combined tackles (four solo), three sacks, 4.5 tackles for loss, and two pass deflections.
