The Boston Red Sox fell to the Philadelphia Phillies 2-1 on Tuesday. With the loss, the team dropped to 17-24. It has been a season of ineptitude for the Red Sox , as the offense is 27th in runs scored, while the pitching has been average.
This has led to some dissatisfaction among fans, who decided to show off their disappointment at the game, according to Nat Gordon of WEEI.
Two ganes sat directly behind home plate at Fenway Park, wearing brown bags on their head with a sad face. Before the end of the inning, the bags were done, leading to speculation that either the fans had been removed or the bags had been removed.
“To be clear here, idk what happened to them for sure. But I noticed the bags were gone after the camera panned back after the challenge on the IKF steal,” Gordon posted on X, in reply to him noticing the bags were gone.
If the event happened just prior to a challenge of a steal by Isiah Kiner-Falefa, that happened in the bottom of the ninth. The batter at the plate appears to be Masataka Yoshida , with Jhoan Duran on the mound. Yoshida singled in the at-bat, and Kiner-Falefa would replace him as a pinch runner. All of this clearly places the event at the bottom of the ninth inning, but pictures showing a fan with a brown bag do not appear earlier in the game.
No statement has been made by the fan in the picture or the club about the event. The Red Sox, at 17-24, are in last place in the AL East . They continue their series with the Phillies on Wednesday night.
