The Los Angeles Dodgers are on the verge of being swept by the San Francisco Giants . In the second game of the series, Shohei Ohtani saw his 53-game on-base streak broken as the team lost 3-0.
Still, it was an incident from the first game of the series that also needed to be addressed. In the sixth inning of the first game of the series, Jung Hoo Lee attempted to make it home on a single with two outs. He attempted to slide around Dodgers rookie catcher Dalton Rushing , but was tagged out. Lee appeared to injure himself on the play, and as Rushing walked away with Lee still on the ground, he turned back, looked at Lee, shrugged, and appeared to say "f*** 'em."
Now, Rushing is denying that he said anything disparaging , per Susan Slusser of The San Francisco Chronicle.
"That's the biggest thing, that's all that matters," Rushing said of Lee's health. "Hopefully he didn't take it the way it was put out. I'll be sure to say something to his face tomorrow, and make sure he's OK. There was nothing really directed at him. He's a great guy."
Rushing claimed to be only focused on the health of Lee, but was still pressed on what he said when walking away from the plate.
"I used a word, but it was not what was said. OK, so I'll just leave it at that," the Dodgers catcher responded. "As long as he's OK and he doesn't think that I'm coming at him or any of those guys over there. I don't care what other people put out there say, I just want to play the game hard, and that's what I do every night."
The 25-year-old catcher is also making an impact at the plate this year. He is hitting .414 with seven home runs and 13 RBIs, playing in just nine games this season.
The Dodgers and Giants will finish their three-game set on Thursday afternoon.
