Players and staff from both teams formed a circle around the iconic monument in Centerfield Plaza. The ceremony emphasized unity while reinforcing the significance of Jackie Robinson Day, a league-wide celebration of the trailblazer who broke baseball’s color barrier.
The gathering included Robinson’s granddaughters, Sonya Pankey Robinson and Ayo Robinson, as well as Negro Leagues Baseball Museum president Bob Kendrick. Their presence added emotional weight to the moment, highlighting the lasting importance of Robinson’s story. Players listened attentively before returning to their pregame routines.
The Athletic’s Fabian Ardaya shared the scene on X, formerly Twitter, capturing both teams standing together in reflection ahead of first pitch.
“The Dodgers and Mets have gathered at the Jackie Robinson statue for Jackie Robinson Day — an annual tradition.”
Recently, this ceremony has become a meaningful tradition at Chavez Ravine. Since 2023, the Dodgers have invited visiting teams to participate, strengthening the tribute’s significance across the league and fostering a shared sense of respect and remembrance.

Despite the competitive stakes surrounding the game, the focus briefly shifted to honoring history. The Dodgers enter the series finale at 13–4, aiming to complete a sweep, while the Mets carry a seven-game losing streak into the matchup.
Jackie Robinson Day continues to serve as a unifying force across baseball. At Dodger Stadium, that message resonated once again as players paused to reflect on a legacy that transcends the game.
