The Miami Dolphins will have their 2025 first-round pick back in the lineup for the first time this season.
The Dolphins activated defensive tackle Kenneth Grant off injured reserve, the team announced Saturday, as he has recovered from his toe injury. Grant is immediately available to play Sunday's 1 p.m. kickoff against the Cincinnati Bengals at Hard Rock Stadium.
This week marked the first Grant was eligible to be activated after he started the season placed on IR, putting him out for a minimum of four games. He went through limited practice sessions Wednesday and Thursday before going through a full day of drills Friday.
"The energy he's brought to practice, it's been great having him out there running around," Dolphins defensive coordinator Sean Duggan said this week. "He's big body, he can move, he's got really good feet for his size. Very strong at the point of attack, can anchor, can take away space and then can provide some rush value whether it's pushing the pocket up the middle or it's working an edge on a guard or running games. I think he does a really good job, really with every aspect of that."
The 6-foot-3, 326-pound defensive tackle's return to the lineup may come on some sort of snap count limitation for his first game back, but Grant can work in with what has been the starting tandem of veteran Zach Sieler and 2025 fifth-round pick Jordan Phillips, along with Zeek Biggers, who has worked inside and outside on the line.
"It allows us to move some pieces around to help us in some certain situations," coach Jeff Hafley said, "whether it's move other people to other positions on certain downs based on personnel. It just gives us more flexibility, more versatility, and it gives us another good player."
In a corresponding move to make room for Grant, the Dolphins waived quarterback Brady Cook, who has been inactive in each of the first four games.
Miami also elevated edge rusher Rodney McGraw and running back Carlos Washington Jr. from the practice squad for Sunday's game against the Bengals.
McGraw is up for the second time after he had a tackle and a quarterback hit in 12 defensive snaps last week against the Minnesota Vikings.
The team uses its first of three available elevations on Washington. He spent last Sunday with a spot on the 53-man roster but did not play against the Vikings. Although Miami claimed running back Kaytron Allen on Friday, Washington can remain active as the third running back while Allen gets acclimated.
The Bengals only elevated safety Russ Yeast on Saturday. With no move to bring up a wide receiver from the practice squad, that could be a good sign for the status of both top wide receivers Ja'Marr Chase (concussion) and Tee Higgins (groin).
