On Tuesday, the Miami Dolphins added a new receiver to their roster while parting ways with another.
The Dolphins claimed Jared Wayne off waivers from the Houston Texans.
In a corresponding move, Miami released wide receiver and special teams contributor Ryan Miller.
Wayne started three games this season for the Texans before being waived
Wayne, 26, has been with the Texans since 2023, when he signed as an undrafted free agent out of Pittsburgh. In Houston, he appeared in nine games, catching six passes for 85 yards. Four of those receptions came in five games this season.
Houston waived Wayne after Sunday's victory over the Tennessee Titans.
Miller, 26, spent time with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and New York Giants before Miami claimed him off waivers from the Giants on Aug. 25. He primarily contributed on special teams, logging 205 snaps in that phase for Tampa Bay in 2025.
Miller appeared in all five of the Dolphins' games this season, catching three passes for 92 yards and a touchdown in Miami's Week 2 loss to the San Francisco 49ers. He also played 61% of the Dolphins' special teams snaps this season.
In addition to claiming Wayne, Miami signed defensive lineman Jordan Jefferson to its practice squad and released defensive lineman Mazi Smith from the unit.
Jefferson has appeared in 10 career games over two seasons, spending time with the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2024 and the 49ers and Cincinnati Bengals in 2025. He has recorded 12 tackles (five solo), 1.0 sack, one tackle for loss, and one pass defensed.
The Jaguars selected Jefferson out of LSU in the fourth round (116th overall) of the 2024 NFL Draft.
Smith joined Miami's practice squad on Sept. 1 and was elevated for the Dolphins' Week 4 game against the Minnesota Vikings. The former first-round pick was selected by the Dallas Cowboys in 2023. He also spent time with the New York Jets in 2025 after being included in the trade that sent Quinnen Williams to Dallas.
