Ahead of their final preseason game, the injury bug has hit the Miami Dolphins' roster.
Defensive tackle Kenneth Grant is week-to-week with an undisclosed leg injury, according to Dolphins coach Jeff Hafley.
In addition, rookie linebacker Trey Moore will undergo surgery on his injured ankle and will be sidelined for an undisclosed amount of time.
Grant has missed time during training camp because of the injury. Hafley said he will not play in Friday night's preseason finale against the Atlanta Falcons and is doubtful to return next week. With the season less than three weeks away, Grant's status for the Dolphins' opener at the Las Vegas Raiders is very much in doubt.
Miami was hoping Grant, who registered just two sacks as a rookie, would make a leap in Hafley's aggressive defense.
"I think of course there's going to be concern," Hafley said about Grant. "If I felt like he was going to for sure be back next week, I would tell you that. Am I hopeful he will be? Yeah, but there's always going to be concern until I see a guy out there.
"Not to like give you an unanswered question, but that's the best I can do on that one. So while I'm hopeful he'll be out there, until he has his helmet and shoulder pads and he's practicing with us, I'm going to have concern, for sure."
Moore was turning heads before suffering injury vs. Giants
Moore, who has flashed during training camp , according to reports, injured his ankle in Saturday's loss to the New York Giants . The Dolphins could place him on injured reserve, which would sideline him for at least the first four weeks of the season.
The good news is that Zach Sieler , who has missed the bulk of training camp because of an injury, is close to returning, according to Hafley.
"Sieler is doing well," Hafley said. "I think he's chomping at the bit to get back, and he's close. He's really close."
After making wholesale changes to their roster, the Dolphins lack depth and will have one of the NFL's youngest teams once the season begins. So the sooner Grant, Moore and Sieler can return to the field, the better off the defense should be.
