The Miami Dolphins continue to grow each week, but they lost a key component of the offense, as rookie guard Kadyn Proctor suffered a concussion. This led to the rookie missing Week 8 due to needing to clear concussion protocols.
Now, Dolphins head coach Jeff Hafley offered a big update on Proctor playing against the Detroit Lions.
Despite being a rookie, Proctor has handled himself well through his rookie campaign. Missing a game is never good, but he has more than made up for that by playing some good football thus far.
Per Pro Football Focus, Proctor has given up 13 pressures and only one sack. He has an overall grade of 64.8, which ranks him 31st out of 75 qualified guards.
Proctor has been one of the shining spots of his young Dolphins team.
Over the past two injury reports for the team, Proctor has practiced in full. He was already tracking to play in Week 9, but Hafley has not confirmed it.
Hafley said , "Proctor is clear," when asked whether or not the rookie guard would return to action.
Getting Proctor back will be huge for the Lions matchup, as the team possesses an All-Pro pass rusher in Aidan Hutchinson, not to mention other strong defenders like Alim McNeill.
Miami has only won one contest thus far, but they continue to be competitive each week. The Lions will be a steep challenge, and the Dolphins' offense will need to ensure they can protect Malik Willis, along with opening run lanes for Ollie Gordon II.
The New England Patriots were able to rifle off five sacks against the Dolphins' offense in Week 8, and that may have been due to Proctor not being on the field and giving the team their core five on the offensive line.
The line must play better, esepcially with the threat of Hutchinson being able to win one-on-one situations to get after Willis and throw the entire offense off.
That said, Proctor returns to the lineup and will be a welcomed site to bring some balance back to the Miami offense.
Whether or not the Dolphins defense can stop the league's top offense remains to be seen, and will be one of the key battles to pay attention to on Sunday. If Miami can grind out a win against one of the better teams in the league, they may start getting even more believers in what Hafley is building in South Florida.
