The Miami Dolphins will get some much-needed defensive line help just in time for Sunday's game against the Cincinnati Bengals.
The team has activated defensive tackle Kenneth Grant from injured reserve.
To make room for Grant, the Dolphins waived quarterback Brady Cook. Miami also elevated edge rusher Rodney McGraw and running back Carlos Washington Jr. to the active roster.
Grant's presence could help Dolphins run defense
On Wednesday, the Dolphins designated Grant for return from injured reserve. He suffered a toe injury during the preseason that landed him on IR to start the 2026 season. Grant was a limited participant in Wednesday's and Thursday's practices before practicing fully Friday.
"I really liked the way he was progressing," Dolphins coach Jeff Hafley said of Grant. "I thought he was starting to play with the play style that we were asking him to. I thought he had a quickness to him. I thought he gave us a little different body type on the inside.
"And I thought he'd have the ability to be good against the run and help us out in the pass game. Smart player, good instincts, just really excited to get him back. Hopeful that he gets back into the groove of where I thought he was trending, really, the last couple of days that we had him."
Miami claimed Cook off waivers from the New York Jets on Aug. 31. He hasn't appeared in a game for the Dolphins this season. Cook could potentially return to Miami's practice squad if he clears waivers.
With Cook's release, the Dolphins will have only two quarterbacks available against the Bengals: starter Malik Willis and Kyle McCord.
McGraw also earned an elevation last week and played in Miami's 15-10 loss to the Minnesota Vikings. He logged 12 defensive snaps and 11 special teams snaps, recording two tackles.
Washington will serve as the Dolphins' third running back behind Jaylen Wright and Ollie Gordon II. Miami claimed Kaytron Allen off waivers Friday , but the rookie likely won't play against Cincinnati.
